M. Elizabeth Duffy,
M. Elizabeth Duffy has extensive experience in defending claims under the State and Federal Employment Laws, including claims for sexual harassment, race, sex, age and disability discrimination, and the Conscientious Employee Protection Act. She has also been involved in matters alleging breach of express or implied employment contracts, intentional infliction of emotional distress, battery, breach of fiduciary duty, and violation of restrictive covenants. She is also well versed in issues involving time off from work, and has successfully handled claims under the FMLA and USERRA. Ms. Duffy has represented Corporate defendants, and not-for-profit Boards and Associations, as well as individual officers, directors or employees who have been sued personally, for all forms of discrimination, sexual harassment and negligent supervision. She has also defended staffing agencies in errors and omissions cases. Ms. Duffy also developed and conducted "Respect and Dignity training" in discrimination and harassment issues for all new employees of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Ms. Duffy is a member of the New Jersey Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She is also admitted to practice in New York and Maine. She regularly appears before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, and a variety of state and federal trial and appellate courts. She has also successfully handled cases before the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. She has extensive experience in alternate dispute resolution proceedings, including arbitration and mediation. Ms. Duffy earned her Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law (J.D., 1992). She received her undergraduate degree from St. Anselm College (B.A., cum laude, 1984). After law school, she was an Assistant Attorney General in the Illinois Attorney General's Office, and, after moving to New Jersey, was a Deputy Attorney General in the State of New Jersey Division of Law in the Employment Litigation Section, representing state agencies in employment matters.
