Scholarship Overview

Since its establishment in 1996 the Robert Clements Scholarship has provided financial support to over 27 Bermudian university students enabling them to complete their degrees in insurance related studies and to pursue careers in the international insurance industry. The scholarship was established in recognition of Mr. Clements' contribution to the creation of ACE Limited in 1985 and in celebration of the completion of 10 years of successful business in Bermuda. The Robert Clements Scholarship is funded by the Chubb Charitable Foundation - Bermuda.

The fully-funded Robert Clements scholarship is awarded to qualified students studying full-time towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in insurance, risk management, actuarial science or other disciplines related to the insurance industry such as corporate law, accounting or economics at any accredited university.

The scholarship is designed for Bermudian students interested in entering the insurance industry and preference will be given to students who plan to return to Bermuda to pursue careers in their chosen field within the industry.

  • The Scholarship provides financial support for a period of up to four years for full-time study in graduate or undergraduate degrees at accredited universities
  • The Scholarship applies to degree courses majoring in insurance, risk management, actuarial science or disciplines related to the insurance industry
  • The Scholarship covers tuition and fees, room and board, books, round trip air transportation, and employment opportunities
  • The Scholarship is awarded annually by the Scholarship Selection Committee
     

Criteria for Selection

  • Candidates must be at least in their final year of high school
  • Candidates must have a GPA minimum of 3.0 or equivalent
  • Candidates must possess a genuine desire to pursue a career in insurance
  • Candidates must hold Bermudian Status or Permanent Resident Certificate
     

Required Documentation

  • Completed Application and Applicant Appraisal Form
  • Letter of acceptance from accredited university
  • Academic letter of recommendation
  • Personal letter of recommendation
  • Original or certified copies of academic transcripts and copies of academic certificates including most current accumulative GPA converted to 4.0 system where possible
  • Passport size photo
  • Essay of no more than 500 words outlining educational objectives and future goals
