This report meets the requirements of the Canadian Federal Government as outlined in section 489.1 of the Insurance Companies Act, and the Public Accountability Statements (Banks, Insurance Companies, Trust and Loan Companies) Regulations. It contains information pertaining to the 2020 fiscal year (January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020), for Chubb Insurance Company of Canada (“CICC”) and its affiliate companies (collectively, “Chubb Canada”). All dollar amounts are expressed in Canadian currency.

This 2020 Canadian Public Accountability Statement includes the contributions of the following affiliate companies of CICC:

  • Combined Insurance Company of America (Canadian Branch) (“Combined”)

Community Development & Participation

Chubb Canada is committed to positively influencing the communities in which its employees work and live. In 2020, Chubb Canada donated $124,655 to charitable organizations.

Matching Gift Program

Chubb Canada offers a Matching Gift program to employees with at least 6 months of service. As part of this program, we match 50% of individual employee charitable donations, from a $25.00 minimum to an aggregate maximum of $20,000 per employee for each calendar year. As part of the Matching Gift program, Chubb Canada donated $22,922 to charitable organizations.

United Way Campaign

Chubb Canada actively supports the United Way through an annual campaign in each of our offices across Canada. As part of the United Way campaign, over $145,811 was raised, including $56,017 donated by Chubb Canada as part of the Matching Gift program.

Other Charitable Donations

Chubb Canada actively supports other eligible community, environmental, health, human services, educational and cultural nonprofit charities that meet its community development goals. As part of these efforts, Chubb Canada donated $45,716 to various charitable organizations.

Taxes Paid

In 2020, Chubb Canada paid $64.2 million in federal income taxes and $111.1 million in provincial income and premium taxes. Collectively, Chubb Canada paid $175.3 million in taxes for 2020.
